One Step Film Forum

One Step Film Forum is dedicating to promoting the Humanity in Myanmar through the films. One Step Film Forum is the whistle blowing arena for people who also need to raise their voices for justice. We are sharing the rights to freedom of expression, Freedom of speech, Peace and Harmony through our film screening events.

In Myanmar, the importance of media was only recently recognized in 2014 when  the quasi-civilian government passed the News Media Law (No. 12/2014) with an objective of enabling the media to effectively function as the fourth pillar. The role of the media is especially important in countries like Myanmar, in terms of ensuring a smooth democratic transition by enhancing transparency and accountability.

When the NLD came to power, the government was expected to further liberalize freedom of expression— just as one would expect more sunshine after a long cold winter. Yet, many believe that the NLD has not yet delivered on its electoral campaign promises of freedom of expression.

However, freedom of expression in Myanmar has not improved. The space for expression has shrunken to the point that it has become natural for people to ask first if they are allowed to do or say something in the open. With less and less free spaces in Myanmar it is very important to share and discuss the alternative information freely. In that case, we established the One Step Film Forum to promote

and advocacy of Humanity, Freedom, Rights and Justice.
